The Big G auto service website is going to try to capture the fun and excitement of this years drag race season. You know it's smart to bring your car to Big G for routine service but there is a competitive side that gets unleashed on the weekends. November 1, 2009 - Took 2 cars to test and tune on Saturday. Wanted to run the El Camino to see if it would be competitive in 14.0 index and took Malibu to run gambler race on 10/31. I got there late and found out the gambler race was full. (full story here) August 22, 2009 - All the dragweek guys have been debating streetability about cars with no carpet. So on Friday afternoon I put some new red carpet in the race car as to conform to what they think a street car is. On Saturday Drove carpeted Malibu to Benton Il. Got there late and only got 2 time runs 7.8 and 7.72 Put a 7.62 on the window and won round #1 on a near perfect light and a 7.69. Round #2 Dialed 7.65 and cut a bad light and ran a 7.72 and lost. Drove car home and now it is going to sit till drag week. August 15, 2009 - The big G birthday party was a huge success! Fun was had by all. Well there was a race within the race. (full story here) August 1, 2009 - Racing 8-01-09 was another heads up pro tree race this time Bob Ruppel joined us in his Nova {see projects ultra bell} First the day started off very rainy and it looked bad for racing. I called Gateway and they said...... (Full story here) July 18, 2009 - Racing again in Benton Il on their 1/8 mile track. Cut a bad light in round one and was eliminated. Bought back in and lost in round two because of some tire spinning at the starting line. July 11, 2009 - Lost in round #1 with a -.001 red light and a .160 losing light in round #2. June 16, 2009 - Was a race for a Wally trophy and I lost in round #2. MAY 30, 2009 - This weekend Gateway was racing a Muscle car reunion. Several problems with that. I would have had to race the Chevelle {1974 and older only} It is a 2 day race. (Full story here) May 23, 2009 - Drove the Malibu to Benton Illinois ....... (Pics and the rest of the story are HERE!) May 16, 2009 - First of all special thanks to Joe at JoBilt Converters for getting my converter cut open and cleaned out on 1 days notice. (Click here for the rest of the story) May 9, 2009 - I
hurried up and got everyone together and got there around 5:30PM and was still
able to make a time run behind PRO. I took the 69 Chevelle because the Malibu
still has the transmission out. The car was hot fresh off the Highway and ran
13.51 with a .006 light! Right after that I had to run 1st round. I put 13.4 on
the window just to give me some room. I cut another .006 light and ran 13.47 but
got beat! The other guy went 13.05 on a 13.0 and cut a .009 light. He beat me by
.0125 seconds! I bought back in and ended up racing Ted Lipka {he is the guy
that beat Neil in the Chevelle last time and ended up winning the whole race} It
was payback time. The car had time to cool down so I left the 13.4 on the
window. I treed him with a .055 bulb to his .075. I was just a little ahead of
him on the top end so I tapped the brakes but probably too close to the finish
line Ran 13.388 and he went 12.836 on a 12.83 dial. That is some good racing! April 21, 2009 - (Gateway
Test and Tune report) Monday
night I (Big G) put the 3.08 rearend in the Malibu. Tuesday it went to the
track. 1.77 60' 12.39@108mph. Tried to run it out in 2nd but was 6000rpm in 2nd
and still 300 feet from finish line. May go faster, the tranny was acting funny
in 1st and may have broken the Stator in the Converter, makes lots of noise in
1st. Will pull trans soon to find problem. Diggy went 11.60 @115mph. I (Big G)
got to try his car and went 11.74 @114mph. Got it to do a 1.66 60'. April 11, 2009 - The site for the week is Gateway International Raceway. Three vehicles carry the Big G banner into the elimination rounds ... (click for more info) Pictures from 4/11/09
