Story from 5/16/09 continued

Also special thanks to Sheila for running the desk on Friday so I could finish building the trans. Thanks to Greg at trans. to go for the technical advise on the tranny. The tranny that was in the car was thrown together to get to Indy last September. It made about 30 passes and even a final round appearance at Black Sunday. But when the 308's went in it really started making noise. My 2400 stall was going 3800. The new tranny installation was finished at 11:00Am Saturday. Test drove to a Chevelle meeting at St Charles Airport and it seemed fine. Then it was time for racing. Gateway had something interesting going on. It was a heads up pro tree race. 10 11 12 13 and 14 second races. I brought the Malibu for 12.0 and Bob V brought my Chevelle to run in 13.0. The Chevelle has been running 13.40's and 50's. so I thought I would do some tricks to get it to 13.0. I removed the spare and jack. Made the timing advance come in quicker and removed the air cleaner. We got it to 13.2. The malibu made a total of 8 runs 4 time runs and 4 eliminations with a final round lose. All time runs were under full throttle all eliminations were on the brakes. This is in order  12.147 12.002 11.991 12.004 12.011 12.037 12.004 11.851 ! Very hard to cut a light on a .400 pro tree. My best was .152  The final round I was waiting for the other guy to deep stage but he wasn't going deep. So while watching his stage lights caused me to be late on the tree and that was the reason for the horrible breakout. Bob V. was killing everyone on the tree and ran 13.2 every pass. He got a bi run the first round and went .003 red in the 2nd round. Bob Ruppels and Sheila came out to watch. It was a little windy and cold but fun was had by everyone!
