The big G birthday party was a huge success! Fun was had by all except BobV. Well there was a race within the race. Bob V started on a big block project in his Chevelle 14 years ago with the sole purpose of beating Bob R's Big Block Nova. It happened about 5 years ago Bob V's car went 11.43 beating Bob R's
12.66 This prompted Bob R to remove his little big block and build a budget 454 to beat Bob V. The Nova had a problem breaking things but could only muster up a 11.92 in 2004. Since Bob V's 11.43 pass he put in a roll bar to be
legal and went back the next year to back up his record. The car was running bad and ended up having a piston to valve clearance problem. The engine ended being overhauled 2 times to get it running right. Saturday was the proving ground! Did Bob V's New big block have the same umph as the old 454 with going down
from 13:1 compression to 10:1? Here is what happened. 1st time run my car {bigG] went 11.829 @ 113 mph fastest pass ever! Bob R. went 11.89 @ 114 mph, his fastest pass ever. Bob V. ran 12.03 but had tire spin and tachometer problems. {I found that his ground wire for the tach was screwed into a piece of metal that had completely rusted away and was just hanging loose, Bob reattached the ground and did a better burnout in round #1} Round #1 We were running a class that was limited to 12.0 and we all had to dial up and let off to win. Bob R. cut a .007 light but didn’t let off enough and broke out with a 11.94 and lost. Bob V
red lighted and got to stay on the throttle to run his fastest 11.84 beating Bob R with the new low compression 454. I dialed in at 12.05 and ran 12.05 with a .015 light beating Jopping Julio's daughter. Both Bobs bought into round #2 to finalize the champ. Round #2 I ended up breaking out with a 11.94 on a 12.05. Bob R
red lighted and got to stay in it to make his record setting 11.826 beating Bob V. and myself by .003. Now it is Bob V's turn with an even better burnout and a little timing tweak, can he run the now coveted 11.825 or better? If you were there you know what happened. Bob V. had a family emergency and had to leave early, he got his buyback refunded and drove home victoriously only to have his dreams smashed 10 minutes later when Bob R. Went 11.826. Not a winner but ready for drag week.
