This weekend Gateway was racing a Muscle car reunion. Several problems with that. I would have had to race the Chevelle {1974 and older only} It is a 2 day race. Work was too busy to take off another Saturday and it was raining in the morning. So I opened the shop and worked till noon. The race car had been here at the shop all week. I went to move it Saturday morning and it wouldn't start. When I finally got it started fuel was shooting out the left of the fuel pump strait at the right header. That is a recipe for fire. Funny it smelled like raw gas the whole way home from Benton! Anyway it is a very stupid design. If there is a rupture in the pump diaphragm there is a bleed off hole that shoots fuel strait to the hot exhaust. Shame on you Holley. This is a crappy design. They should vent it down or something. Also the replacement Holley $130 fuel pump says Korea on it. What is this world coming to? I got that done and went to lunch. After lunch I called Sikeston to see if they were racing today since the weather got so nice. The lady told me they start at 5PM. What a deal it is only 3pm now. After a little sweet talking Sheila was OK with the idea. I hurried and put on a new set of Mickey Thompson Drag radials {235-60-15} I went a little smaller since I had a little tire rubbing issue with the 255's. Left for Sikeston Sheila Aaron and I at 4PM also Mr Wiggles came too {sheila's mom's Shihtzu} We got to Sikeston at 6:30 and had to hurry to get a time run in. Hot off the highway the car ran 7.75. So I dialed in at 7.7 After alot of cool down time I ran a 7.68 hard on the brakes. I figured it would have been a 7.63 so I bought back in and put 7.6 on the window. Round 2 ran 7.83 on the brakes. I left the 7.6 for round #3 I cut a crappy .640 light and ran 7.61 @89mph and lost. Cut a 1.64 60'! Drove back home at 10:00 and got home by 12:30. I could have done better if I had more time runs and a while to cool down. Next time I will leave around 2:30 to get there. The race car used up 25 gallons of gas for that trip!
